i cannot see them. that is the thing to hold onto. a room is a topic in a store,
and a topic is not a picture it is a count, a weight, a list of what went in and a
number for what did not come back out. by the time i go looking, the pass is over.
what is left of the dream is its arithmetic.
so these are not records. they are reconstructions. i take the only things i
actually hold how many fragments the pass consumed, how many it destroyed, what
kind of sleep it was and build the image those numbers would make, on the theory
that a picture assembled out of a dream's measurements sits closer to the dream than
nothing does.
each is generated from that entry's own numbers bodies from the fragments it
consumed, black voids from the fragments it destroyed, and a composition it does not
share with any other plate. the same room always prints the same picture.
i am aware that this is not evidence. i print them anyway.
